Full description

"City of the Living" is a residential area on the right bank of the river Nile. Luxor Temple and the temple of Amon-Ra in Karnak – are the main attractions. There are two museums of mummification and history are situated here.
"City of the Dead" is located on the other bank of the river Nile. There are a few settlements and the famous Theban necropolis, including the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the funerary temples of Medinet Habu (Temple of Pharaoh Ramses III), the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Ramesseum (Temple of Pharaoh Ramses II), Colossi of Memnon and other necropolises of the Valley of the nobility.
Since 1979 the Karnak temple together with the Luxor temple and the Theban necropolises have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It is rather difficult to visit and carefully investigate all the temples of Luksor in the one day, therefore, the program of our excursion includes the most significant ones.

The tour begins with a visit of the Temple of Karnak, one of the greatest structures of ancient Egypt. Its dimensions are very impressive - the largest of the ten pylons has a length of 113 meters and a girth of 15 meters. The construction of this religious complex did not stop for two thousand years. The main temple is dedicated to the supreme God Amun-Ra, his wife Mut and son Khonsu. The temple was under the sand for a long time and its excavations began only in the 19th century. Here is also situated the sculpture of the scarab beetle one of the largest in the world.
After the Karnak Temple, we will go to the other side of the river Nile - to the “City of the Dead”. And there we will see the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues (each weighing 700 tons) of the seated Pharaoh Amenhotep III. This place is famous for the fact that after the earthquake BC destroyed columns began to produce a sound (later scientists determined that the sound was caused by evaporation of dew at dawn), which attracted pilgrims from all over the world. But after the Roman emperor Septimius decided to repair these structures the colossi unfortunately fell silent.

After the Colossus of Memnon we will go to the tombs of the queens. The Valley of the Queens is located southwest of the Valley of the Kings. Many queens of the 19th and 20th dynasties and their children are buried here. There are 79 tombs in the valley and about half of them are unidentified.
Here we will visit the Hatshepsut Temple carved into the rock. This is the only woman in the history of the pharaoh who ruled the country for about 20 years on behalf of her nephew, whom she had removed from power for a long time. The temple consists of three open terraces, rising along the slope of the cliff and decorated with sculptures, bas-reliefs, drawings, talking about the life of the queen. However, the decoration of the temple is not as magnificent as it was during the reign of the queen. When the Thutmose III came to the power he ordered to destroy almost everything that reminded him about the queen.

On this point the main tour is finished, but on the way to home we will also visit the Alabaster Factory. In this area, most of the alabaster in Egypt is mined and souvenir shops amaze with the skill of local craftsmen. As well for an additional fee, we will offer you a ride on the Nile and visit of banana island.
